Digital Environments

This page will display various works from my 3D Digital Environments Class. including story concepts, sketches, story board sequences, preliminary work, problem solving analysis notes and tools and a final animatic.

Synopis:
For this first project we were asked to think of a single character from literature, movies, or history and create an environment based on that person/personality. I did decided to use a person from history and that history being that of the Ancient Classic Era Mayan King Yik'in -CHAN-K'AWI:L-  meaning: "K'awiil that Darkens the Sky". A fierce conqueror of nearby kingdoms and credited with the largest period growth of of his fathers dynasty.

I am going to portray his prosperity and exploits through this environment by use of effective camera movement, story telling objects and images, as well as mood and lighting. This will be done primarily using Autodesk Maya and Adobe Photoshop as well as some other for smaller tasks.

Concept Sketches and Story Boards:
To begin, we created preliminary idea and sketchwork

After choosing our camera/story direction we need to decide on how to effectively enhance or project through the use of color. We do this by way of color comps/breaks to help experiment with varying color combinations.. Heres an example below

Preliminary 3D work or "Blocking In" of the scene in basic shapes to represent objects within the environment

After we have determined what we want within our environments as well as where we want them, its time to determine what hardships or troubles we may have....we do this in a problem analysis....

some problems i foresee are creating a moving skybox with meteors streaking across the sky

another problem i will have is accurately modeling fire for the torches

i will need to overcome is creating mountains the background
